About the Course

Mastering the LUMS SBASSE Physics Subject Test: A Comprehensive Preparation Course

The Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) at LUMS offers Master of Science (MS) programmes that provide rigorous and specialized professional and research-oriented training. Students can choose from MS-by-Coursework or MS-by-Thesis, both of which will prepare them for the SBASSE subject test conducted by LUMS.

The LUMS MS Physics programme places a special emphasis on fundamental concepts and their application in various fields, including Nanoscience, Optics, Quantum Dynamics, Cosmology, and more. Students who enroll in this programme will receive training in these areas and be well-prepared to take the SBASSE subject test.

The programme curriculum offers a unique and multidisciplinary learning environment. Students will have the opportunity to work with knowledge drawn from all six disciplines offered at SBASSE, including chemistry, biology, engineering, information sciences, finance, and mathematics. By studying these subjects, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required to excel in the SBASSE subject test and make groundbreaking discoveries in their chosen field.

The programme encourages students to engage in research projects and exploratory experiments beyond their formal coursework in classrooms and laboratories. To stay up to date with the latest research, students are invited to attend regular seminars and colloquia led by faculty, students, and guest speakers from outside LUMS. Graduates of the programme have a wide range of career opportunities, including working at research and teaching institutes both in Pakistan and abroad, and pursuing a PhD.

Core Courses:

The MS program has two options:

  • MS-by-Thesis and MS-by-Coursework.
  • For MS-by-Thesis, students are required to complete 18 credit hours of core courses, while MS-by-Coursework students need to complete 12 credit hours of core courses.

The core courses include,

  • Graduate Physics Lab
